How the Bristol Crocodile Came to Life
Back in 2014, I remember reading the news articles about a crocodile being spotted in the River Avon. The story fascinated Bristol and it fascinated me too. As soon as I read about it, I was intrigued. Almost immediately, I thought: this would make a wonderful story for children.
Of course, life has a way of slowing things down. Between being a busy mum, work, and everything else that comes with daily life, it took a while for that story to be written. But the idea never left me. It grew quietly in the background, waiting for the right moment. Finally, in 2025, The Bristol Crocodile made its debut, the first in what I hope will become a much-loved series for families.
Bristol has always been my home, and turning this mysterious creature into a Bristol legend felt like a natural step. I wanted to create something magical that would connect children with their city and spark their imagination for years to come.

The initial books are aimed at preschool children aged between 3–5 years old — perfect for sharing at bedtime, reading together during quiet moments, or encouraging little ones to explore their own creativity and curiosity.
Since then, the project has grown beyond the book. I’ve created over 20 greeting cards featuring the crocodile around Bristol landmarks, all designed in the same bold style and vibrant colours that children love. They’re bright, playful, and instantly recognisable, perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or simply sending a smile in the post.
Just as importantly, I’ve worked hard to keep production local. Whenever possible, printing and manufacturing are done here in Bristol, or at least within the UK. Supporting local businesses and keeping everything sustainable has always been close to my heart.
Now, I’m busy working on the next couple of books, planned for release in 2026. My hope is that families will continue to enjoy sharing the crocodile’s adventures, at story time, at birthdays, and in the everyday little moments where stories bring us closer together.
For parents, these books are not just about bedtime reading. They’re a way to share a piece of Bristol’s imagination and character with your children, to explore kindness and community, and to keep alive the mystery of a legend that began in our very own River Avon.
