Housed in a former transit shed, this vibrant space tells the story of the city and its people - past, present, and even a glimpse into the future.

A Link to The Bristol Crocodile

The M Shed celebrates Bristol’s real stories, but the city also has its share of legends. One of the most mysterious is the Bristol Crocodile, first spotted in the River Avon in 2014.

This local legend inspired my first children’s picture book, The Bristol Crocodile, written for ages 3–5. In the story, the Bristol Crocodile becomes a gentle adventurer, quietly helping friends across the city.

So, after your children discover Bristol’s history at the M Shed Museum, you can bring home a little extra magic at story-time, exploring the mythical side of Bristol together. And who knows? As you wander the Harbourside, keep your eyes peeled… you might just spot the legendary Bristol Crocodile lurking along the River Avon!
